CHILD AS THE LEADING ROLE
MONTESSORI METHOD
Dr. The Montessori education method, created by Maria Montessori, is a basic preschool education model that supports the development of children in line with their learning interests, providing freedom to children to discover themselves, develop self-control and independence. Montessori approach is not only a "method", but also a systematic, progressive, objective, observation and self-actualization-based "preparation for life" philosophy. The starting point of the Montessori Method is natural human behavior. One of the most important goals of the Montessori Method created in this way is the development of personality. However, the development of an individual's personality shows that other goals related to him are also achieved. According to Montessori, personality is one of the most important human values. For this reason, he thinks that the development of the personality as a whole in the education process is more important than learning.
Works related to practical life, which seem natural or even monotonous to adults, have a special value for the child. Above all, they excite the child. Because, thanks to these behaviors, the child provides the opportunity to model adults. This is one of the strongest impulses seen in early childhood. This area of the Montessori School is intertwined with activities that will perfect the coordination of children. The concentration period of children working in this environment gradually increases. In addition, children learn to pay attention to detail as they follow the regular order in the exercises. In this way, they gain the right working habits by finishing and putting back what they have acquired before starting another work. In the educational environment organized according to the Montessori Method, children learn by doing and living. Its main teacher is the environment. The Montessori Method's putting the child at the center has also radically changed the role of the teacher. Because the child does not get the knowledge from the teacher, but from the environment through his experiences.
Montessori materials are of great importance for this educational method. The most important feature of the materials is that they provide children with the opportunity to find their mistakes on their own and to self-regulate. In this method, the teacher does not tell the child his mistakes. If the child cannot realize his mistake through the materials, this shows that he has not developed enough. But the child will be able to see and correct his mistake when the time comes. It is the child's responsibility to choose, determine the time, collect and place the material after using it. Respect for the child is essential. When given the opportunity to make their own choices, they discover and reveal their potential.
